Sacramental Preparation is for children who wish to receive their First Holy Communion and/or their First Reconciliation.
Program Requirements:
Program Requirements:
1. The child must be already Baptized Catholic (if your child was baptized in another Christian faith, please see the OCIC section). We cannot register any child in our Sacramental Preparation program without a copy of the Baptismal certificate. Please bring it with you when you register.
2. The child must be in the 2nd to 4th grade, and be at least seven years old, by September 1st of 2010 (if your child is in the 5th grade or higher and has not received his/her First Communion, please see the OCIC section).
3 The child must be separately enrolled in (and attend regularly) one of our weekly Faith Formation classes, or be enrolled in a Catholic School.
4. Our diocese requires that the family must be registered in our parish at St. Anthony or we must have permission from your parish of registry. If your family is not yet registered, please register ASAP at the parish office..
5. Attendance at all parent and family (parent/child) sessions, eight in all, is mandatory and required by the parish. Several opportunities are available for each session. Please plan all other activities around this calendar so you do not miss any session.
What is the Sacramental Preparation Program?
Parents meet with their child for Family Sessions in Sacramental Preparation. The parent is an integral part of each child’s preparation for these sacraments and activities are centered around this parent/child team. The parents work with the child at home on the textbook material as well as providing opportunities for prayer and weekly Mass attendance.
In the fall, after the parent meeting, the parent/child teams will meet three times for Sacramental Preparation Family Sessions. These will be a theological expansion of the work done at home and further preparation to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The child will receive his/her Sacrament of Reconciliation sometime in December, January or February.
In January, at a second parent meeting, each child’s date for first Holy Communion is finalized, textbooks for Eucharist are distributed and the first Eucharist homework assignment is reviewed.
Then in February, March and April we will have three more Family Sessions for Sacramental Preparation to prepare for First Holy Communion.
The First Holy Communion Masses will be the last weekend of April and the first weekends of May.
