Ministry: Preparation of lap-sized prayer blankets for St. Anthony of Padua parishioners and their families
Current Ministry Leader: Debbie Cantu
Mission: St. Anthony's Prayer Blanket Ministry is one with a dramatic impact on those in need of healing in body, mind, and spirit. It is made up of generous volunteers who donate their time and talents to the preparation of lap-sized prayer blankets.
The prayer blankets are not quilts. They are available to St. Anthony of Padua Parishioners and their families who may be in need of spiritual comfort during times of physical or emotional illness. The blankets are a witness to our belief in the healing power of prayer. Please stop by the Parish Office and read through the many cards and letters we have received from the recipients of our blankets.
Our Ministry currently has over 50 dedicated volunteers. We hold no regular meetings, but Ministry Members can get together on the 4th Tuesday of each month in Room 205 of the Parish Life Building from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. to pray, sew, and share. Most sewing, however, is done at home at your own pace, during which time prayers are offered for the recipients.
The blankets are in great demand, so we are always looking for additional members to help out. There are many opportunities to serve. We need people to cut fabric, make labels, assemble kits, assist at the Healing and Anointing Services, and sew the blankets.
We especially need people who like to sew. If you are interested and are able to machine stitch a simple straight seam, please contact us. Everything you need to make a blanket is available in a kit at the Parish Office. Instruction sheets are also included with the kits. Feel free to look at some of the completed blankets to get an idea of how they are sewn. Our volunteers do amazing work.
We always welcome monetary donations to purchase fabric as well as donations of cotton fabric and/or ribbon.
Please join us in bringing comfort and peace to the suffering and those in need of consolation.
