Parish Stewardship Opportunities
COUNCILS:
Pastoral: The primary role of the Pastoral Council is to be a consultative body for the pastor. The Council is in effect a living model of the parish as a worshipping community. Often referred to as the "wisdom" of the faith community, the Council's responsibility is to represent the needs of all the people of the parish and by reaching out to the parish determine what issues are impacting their lives. Through a process of prayer, study, dialogue and most importantly, discernment and consensus, the Pastoral Council can recommend practical conclusions regarding these issues. Finance: The Finance Council is a consultative body to the pastor and has seven members at this time. The Finance Council considers the issues of budget, finance, physical plant and parish resources in service to the community and its needs as identified by the Pastor in consultation with the Pastoral Council. Individuals may be appointed to the Finance Council by the Pastor or discerned following his call for nominees. For more information, contact Vicky Pafk.
Stewardship: The Stewardship Council acts to promote the use of time, talent and treasure in our every day life. Members generally serve for three years. New members are discerned each fall to replace outgoing council members. Interested parishioners are encouraged to take part in the discernment process. Education: The Education Council of St. Anthony of Padua serves our parish family by ensuring Catholic education for all ages by listening to determine the educational needs of our children, teens and adults, by reaching a consensus on how those needs are best met, by providing guidance and support to the educational process and by encouraging the community to seek and enrich their formation of faith. Vocations Committee: The vocations committee helps to promote awareness and education of vocations in our Parish. We help facilitate and support those men and women in our Parish and the Diocese who are discerning, or, are preparing for vocations as priests, brothers or sisters as well as lay people interested in religious vocations or Third Orders. LITURGY (Worship)
Altar Linens: Volunteers for this ministry launder and iron the purificators and small corporals used for Mass. Member commitment to pick up the linens for cleaning once every 7 weeks. If you are interested in this ministry or need additional information, please contact Carol Doutel.
Altar Servers: Parishioners who have completed the fourth grade, have received their First Holy Communion, are members of a family that is registered in our Parish, and are at a maturity level appropriate for serving at the Altar of our Lord are eligible to enroll in the Altar Server Ministry. The members of this ministry serve at the Altar of the Lord in a dignified, respectful, and reverent manner. Training is required and will be provided. Altar Society: The volunteers in this ministry help clean our sanctuary by dusting the altar, presiders' chairs, lectern and ambo. They also launder the table linens in the Narthex and change the holy water in the fonts in the main sanctuary. Members commit to one day every six weeks. Anointing of the Sick: The volunteers in this ministry assist those who are seriously ill as they present themselves to be anointed in this beautiful sacrament of healing. These liturgies are held approximately every two to three months on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm. To volunteer or for more information, please contact Marianne Furchak.
Art & Environment: This group ensures the Church is decorated for the appropriate liturgical season. The aim is to draw parishioners into worship and to remind them of the facets of Christ's life, death and resurrection that are being celebrated in each liturgy. Children’s Lectors: Children in grades 4-8 proclaim the word of God at the 9am Children's Mass on the 4th Sunday of every month and for other special children’s Masses. Children in grades 3-8 proclaim the word of God for the Children's Liturgy of the Word at the 9am & 11am Masses on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month. Training is required. Children’s Liturgy of the Word: C.L.O.W. To make the Scriptures more accessible to young listeners, the parish offers a separate Liturgy of the Word for children ages 6 to 11 at the 9:00 and 11:00 am Sunday Masses. At the designated time, the children go to the Adult Meeting Room to hear the Sunday scripture readings proclaimed from the Children's Lectionary. Divine Mercy Chaplet for the Dying: The Divine Mercy Prayer Line offers special prayers using the Chaplet of Divine Mercy given to St. Faustina by Our Lord. For information please contact Mary McMartin.
Divine Mercy Devotions: Includes a yearly celebration of the Novena of Divine Mercy (Good Friday to Divine Mercy Sunday) AND Divine Mercy Sunday celebration (the Sunday after Easter). Please contact Mary McMartin or Patti Harper for more information.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC): Members of this ministry assist the pastor and deacon in distributing Holy Communion during liturgies. It is a blessing to serve each member of the parish family through the Eucharist. Training is required and is offered several times each year. Contact Gail Reebenacker for more information.
EMHC Visitation Ministry: This extension of our liturgy permits commissioned Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to bring the Blessed Sacrament to those who are homebound or in a hospital setting. Greeters: Our role is to greet the parish family of St. Anthony’s as they arrive for liturgical services. This ministry involves the whole family. Contact John & Linda Bundscho for more information.
Lectors: These men and women proclaim the Scripture during Mass. They devote time and preparation to understanding the Word of God so that all may hear and be open to God transforming their lives. Marist Laity: The Marist Laity is the Lay part of the religious order of the Society of Mary. The Lay Marist provide formation in Marist Spirituality for women and men and are engaged individually and as a group in the Parish in promoting devotions to the Blessed Mother, spiritual growth, and mission in the spirit of Mary. Men's Prayer Group: Members of this ministry gather together to pray and share their faith with one another. Small groups, special speakers and periodic retreats have proved to be an excellent opportunities for the men who have participated. Please contact Kevin Hoctor for more information.

Perpetual Adoration: Come! Join fellow parishioners who have made commitments to spend one regularly scheduled hour each week adoring our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, or to be included on the substitute list. The commitments of these parishioners have made it possible for our Adoration Chapel to remain open from Sunday evenings starting at 7:00 PM, and continuing until Saturday mornings at 9:00 AM. All are welcome to drop in on weekdays between the hours of 8:30 AM and 10:00 PM to spend time in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in silence. Prayer Line: The Prayer Line Ministry consists of a group of people who pray for specific needs upon request. Requests are received, and sent to all members who pray for the request. Sacristans: Sacristans work behind the scenes to ensure the liturgies run smoothly. They prepare the sacred vessels and linens needed for the liturgy, sign in the liturgical ministers and help clean and put away all items after Mass. Training is provided. Contact Vicky Pafk for more information.
Ushers: The ladies and gentlemen of this ministry provide orderly and efficient assistance during select times in the liturgical celebration. Training is provided. Contact Brenda Montemayor for more information.
Wedding Coordinators: Wedding coordinators assist the parish in providing hospitality, organization and assistance to the prsider, bride, groom and their wedding party at the rehearsal and on the day of their wedding. MUSIC
St. Anthony Choir: This SATB choir sings a wide variety of music along with leading the assembled in active participation of sung prayer. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 and sing at the 11:00am Mass on Sundays. Come join us, we’d love to have you sing with us!! Contact Stephen Sloper for more information.
Spirit Song: This choir is open to all singers high school age and adult. This group sings from a wealth of music including today’s liturgical contemporary style, as well as the great music of our Catholic heritage. Luz y Sal Spanish Choir: The Luz y Sal Choir welcomes anybody that likes singing as well as guitarists, pianists, or instrumentalists. We sing at the 7:00 PM Spanish masses on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month, and have rehearsals prior to mass at 6:20 pm. Coro Luz Y Sal: El coro Luz Y Sal da la bienvenida a todas las personas que les gusta cantar y a guitarristas, pianistas, o instrumentalistas. Bronze Bell Choir: Our Handbell choir play three octaves of Schulmerich bells and Mallmark tonechimes. The ability to read music is required. Participation involves weekly rehearsals and scheduled performances associated with the Church's liturgical calendar. Ages high school through heavenly wings are welcome. Cantors: Cantors serve a major role in liturgical celebrations by leading the congregation in song. Successful cantors have a pleasant voice and project well, read music, adjust to unforeseen circumstances without being nervous, and are able to provide musical leadership in front of large assemblies. St. Gregory Schola: We are blessed to have a group of men and women committed to the study and performance of Chant. We meet twice monthly for one hour at 9 a.m. on the first and third Sundays of the month. Much of our study and work is done individually. Paduan Singers: Our youngest of angels, the Paudan Singers are grades kindergarten through second grade. We are the preparatory choir for the Choristers. In the Paudan Singers, all children learn the basic choral music skills needed to soar with the eagles in the advanced choir, the Choristers. The Paduans sing at liturgies occasionally and for some very special events such as Christmas, Easter, Palm Sunday, Mother's Day and more. This is the beginning foundation of our entire Music Ministry. We rehearse on Thursdays from 4:15-5:15 pm. Mr. Stephen Sloper is the Director, assisted by Ms. Veronica Weinmann. Choristers: For those grades 3 through 8. The primary children's choir of our community is for youngsters, grades three through eight. This is the group for all aspiring young musicians. Here we are very serious about music as prayer, art, an expression of our faith and service to our God and our community. There is never an audition for this choir but dedicated attendance and a serious commitment are expected. This choir rehearses weekly on Thursdays from 5:30-6:45 pm and sings twice a month at the 9 am liturgy. Mr. Stephen A. Sloper is the Director and Ms. Veronica Weinmann is the Assistant Director. Baptism Preparation for Parents: This ministry welcomes new members to our parish by personal contact with new parents and their families; instructing and sharing with them the responsibilities of raising a child in the Catholic faith. J.C. Rockers (5th/6th Grade Ministry): Providing opportunities for social, service, and outreach activities designed just for 5th and 6th graders, this new ministry is a fun way to GET INVOLVED! Parental involvement is needed for this ministry to thrive. Contact Sandy Plugge for more information.
Parent Core Team: Parents, you can be involved with J.C. Rockers as well. We can always utilize your skill, expertise and experiences as a team member. We plan and coordinate events while having a great time entertaining and educating the 5th and 6th grade age level with an upbeat Christian atmosphere. Contact Sandy Plugge for more information.
Sacrament Preparation: Monthly preparation sessions for those who will receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Children are in grades 2 through 5 and attend with their parents. Need hospitality and activity leaders for each Sunday session. For more information on serving in this ministry, contact Pat Odom.
OCIC: (RCIA for children): Weekly preparation classes for children 7 to 17 years of age who will enter the Church and receive up to 4 sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Need catechists for approximately 4 classes from August to Christmas and approximately another 4 classes before Easter. Very flexible schedule. Textbook provided. Vacation Bible School: St. Anthony’s offers a week-long Vacation Bible School during the summer for all children pre-school age 4 through completing Grade 5. Children participate in lessons, games, story-time, arts and crafts, service, and snacks. Contact Kim Garza for more information.
HOMESCHOOLERS:
Bread of Life: The purpose of our group is to offer local support for the social, spiritual, educational, and physical growth of Catholic home schooling families in the Woodlands area through friendship and cooperation. We achieve these goals through activities that include weekday Mass, play days, social and organizational meetings, field trips, service projects, and family gatherings. Adult Education Committee: The Adult Education Committee plans and hosts the adult programs to educate and encourage participation in the full sacramental life of the Church through prayer, scripture, fellowship, theology, social justice and family life. Cornerstone Bible Study: The Cornerstone Catholic Scripture Study’s (CCSS) mission strives to build, strengthen and deepen a personal and loving relationship with God and His people through prayer and the study of His Word. FAMILIA (Family Life in America): Consists of small faith sharing groups for “Mothers of Young Children” and “Husbands and Fathers”. Landings: This ministry provides a safe harbor or landing place for returning Catholics to explore their faith and their future with the Church. It is designed to welcome those who wish to investigate returning to the Catholic Church. Our group meets whenever we have a participant available who is coming back to the Church. Marriage Encounter: A marriage enrichment ministry based on the Marriage Encounter weekend. This ministry is open to all couples and acts as a follow-up support group. Contact Tom & Molly Johnson for more information.
Marriage Prep/Sponsor Couples: The goal of the Sponsor Couple program is to provide couple-to-couple approach to marriage preparation. The engaged couple preparing for marriage meets with the sponsor couple for a series of five evenings in the home of the sponsor couple. During these evenings, the sponsor couple can share, encourage and support the engaged couple in their quest for a Christian marriage. Training sessions provided for sponsor couples. Natural Family Planning: The Natural Family Planning (NFP) ministry is an exciting one as class participation is growing, and more couples are coming to live the beauty of the Catholic Church’s teaching on married life. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): Through the R.C.I.A. program, we share our experiences of living today’s faith at St. Anthony’s, our celebrations and our spirituality with our non-Catholic brethren who have expressed a desire for conversion. St. Anne's Society: St. Anne's Society Mom's Group is a fellowship and support group for parish moms. We have monthly meetings on topics relevant to a Catholic mom’s spiritual and family life, as well as playdates, Mom's Nights Out, family outings, couples' dinners and service projects. Join us!! That Man is You! - This series is designed to help men better understand themselves, their wives and their marriages as well as their unique role in the family and society. YOUTH MINISTRY::
The EDGE is a Catholic junior high youth ministry for early adolescents in grades seven and eight. It is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents. It meets every Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:30pm. Contact Barb Beale for more information.
The EDGE Core Team: consists of parents, adults, young adults, and high school teens who gather every week to spiritually assist the junior high youth at EDGE Night. They are a dedicated group of parishioners who pledge to aid the junior high youth in deepening their faith commitment to Jesus and the Catholic Community. Contact Barb Beale for more information.
Life Teen is an international Catholic movement that serves the young Church through a vibrant Eucharistic spirituality and by creating opportunities for teens to grow in their faith. We begin with Mass on Sunday evenings at 6PM and gather afterwards from 7:30 to 9PM in the youth room for Life Nights. We experience the grace of Christ through Scripture, prayer, community, large group talks and small group discussion. Confirmation: Teens are prepared for Confirmation in an intense one-year program during their 10th grade year, also during grades 11 and 12. Classes are held weekly on Wednesday nights from 7:00p.m.-8:30p.m. This sacramental preparation offers catechesis, prayer, scripture, reflection, community building, and personal sharing, retreats, and service projects. OUTREACH:
Between Jobs: This Ministry provides networking assistance and encouragement to people who are between jobs, reminding them of God’s love and concern. BJM members include Job Seekers, Encouragers, and Parish Network Resources. Between Jobs meets every Wednesday night at The Woodlands United Methodist Church on Lake Woodlands Drive starting at 7:00pm. For information on BJM, please contact Kevin Williams.
Blood Drive: “Give the Gift of Life” ~ This Ministry organizes periodic blood drives at St. Anthony’s. Please contact Sue O'Connell for more information.
Dignity of Life: This ministry is an apostolate dedicated to bringing the Gospel of Life (John Paul II) to our parish, prayerfully serves to share the teachings of the Church regarding Right to Life, embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, end of life care, Abortifacient/contraception, bio-ethics, dignity of the disabled, eugenics, ethics of organ transplantation and the death penalty, among others. The ministry is focused in sharing these teachings in four primary areas: prayer and worship; healing and outreach; education and events; and, public policy and legislative change. Habitat for Humanity/St. Anthony’s House: Working with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, this Ministry takes the Gospel message to “shelter the homeless” out to the neighborhood by constructing homes in the Conroe area. Contact Ken Lepper for more information.
Prayer Blankets: Members of this Ministry sew prayer blankets. The blankets are blessed at the Parish Healing and Anointing service and are available for those who are ill, or in need of special prayers. Contact Debbie Cantu for more information.
St. Anthony’s Bread: This Ministry seeks Christ in His call to feed the hungry. We handle the logistics of both purchasing and collecting donated foodstuffs and toiletries through the food pantry building. In addition, we distribute these goods from the building with regular walk-up hours, Meals-on-Wheels, Tamina deliveries and by appointment to all who ask. We are always in need of food AND money donations, which can be dropped off at the Church anytime, or at the pantry during morning hours of operation Mondays through Thursdays (enter the parking lot from the second Kuykendall Drive entrance and go to the building behind the Day Chapel). St. Martha’s Society: Volunteers provide a luncheon reception for parishioner families and their guests in St. Anthony’s Adult Meeting Room following a Funeral. Contact Rose Herzog for more information.
St. Vincent de Paul: This Ministry’s goal is to be a safety net intended to assist all our neighbors in the most basic of needs; food, clothing and shelter. Anyone interested in this Ministry is welcomed to join us on the 1st Sunday of each month. For more information contact Larry Stahl.
Second Family Care Team: Second Family reaches out to those who are elderly, ill or physically disabled and need just a little help to remain independent. Many of our care partners have no family members close by, and our volunteers help meet such basic needs as transportation to doctor appointments, the grocery store or to Mass. If you have a few extra hours a month, and a willingness to help people, then Second Family Care Team is right for you. We need you (and your family) to join our team and become a part of Second Family! PARISH LIFE:
Boy Scouts: The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. A program for boys 11 through 17 designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster. (Boys also may become Boy Scouts if they have earned the Arrow of Light Award or have completed the fifth grade.) Contact Scoutmaster Briant Dunnican for more information.
Circle of Friends: This singles ministry is open to all adult individuals who are single, divorced, separated or widowed and looking for fun and Christian fellowship. COF events occur on an ongoing basis, so please feel free to drop in at any time to get a feel for the group and to meet some of its members. Cub Scouts: Cub Scouts is for boys in 1st through 5th grade. Cub Scouts involves the whole family in an achievement program packed full of boy adventures. Scouting is fun with a purpose, including such activities as camping, swimming, fishing, archery, BB guns, crafts and service projects. All are encouraged to earn their Catholic Religious Awards such as "Light of Christ" and "Parvuli Dei". Our program is supported through annual dues and a popcorn fundraiser. Dinner Club: This social ministry serves as a means to meet others from the parish community and to share meals and fellowship. Groups consisting of four couples meet monthly rotating among each couple’s home. New groups form every six months. For more information, contact Zeke Metzler.
Fellowship Sunday: Donuts and coffee are served the first Sunday of each month after the 7, 9 and 11 am Masses. This hospitality ministry enables Parishioners to socialize after Mass. Girl Scouts: To provide a program that will enable young ladies to participate in the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council in one of the five levels designated by their age and grade. Daisies will be meeting once a month on Thursday after school. 1st grade Brownies will be meeting twice a month on Thursday after school. 2nd and 3rd grade Brownies will be meeting twice a month on Tuesday after school. PAG-ASA: The Philippine-American Group at Saint Anthony of Padua - A group of committed men, women, and children sharing their talent and time to become the cultural portal and spiritual torch of the Philippine-American community at St. Anthony’s.
