2023-2024 Sacramental Preparation Program

Family Sessions

In the Sacrament Preparation Program we respect and support the parent’s first responsibility for the education of their child. Our program provides at-home materials along with in-Church opportunities for growth and knowledge. Families as a whole are welcome and encouraged to participate in the sessions.

Each Family Session is offered twice.  The content covered is the same – at time of registration your family committed to attend Tuesday sessions or Wednesday sessions.

Calendar of program sessions can be found at ap.church/classschedules.

Home Lessons Information

Sacramental Preparation combines a home-study program with in-person Family Sessions. Our Sacrament Preparation Program uses the St. Joseph First Communion Catechism to help guide us through the fundamentals of Reconciliation and Holy Communion. Other materials will be sent periodically that will bring further enrichment to the program.

Assessment Information

Children will be assessed on their readiness prior to receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion.

It is not easy when it comes to evaluating readiness for the Sacraments and yet, it is the responsibility of the pastor and the staff to make that determination for each child. Readiness should not be confused with worthiness. If the time is not right at the present for a child, the family is encouraged to try again later when the child’s desire is truly there and the evidence of that readiness is also present.

You may use these resources to help your child receive his or her Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Rite describes what is said and done during the Sacrament.  The Examination of Conscience provides questions for your child in order to review past thoughts, words and deeds in preparation of receiving the Sacrament.
